Unworked copper is soft, but it hardens when processed. This means that processed copper, such as that in tube lugs, will spring back to its original shape if compressed around a cable. You can soften processed copper again by annealing it. This is a process where the copper is heated to 400°C and then cooled down.
To ensure that our tube lugs do not spring back, they are annealed twice (hence the name double annealing). This makes them soft and easy to crimp. It also means they only harden once the lug is firmly crimped onto the cable. As a result, the crimp maintains its contact pressure throughout the cable's entire lifespan.
